StuCo hosts Thrift night

StuCo+hosts+Thrift+night

As part of the first-ever Expo 2024 event on April 5, the Manhattan High School Student Council hosted a thrift night for students to help other students around the MHS community.

“There were really good clothes we donated that sold for really cheap, and I think it helps spread fashion out to different groups of people that were interested to come shop through there,” StuCo sponsor Dustin Duntz said.

Along with hosting a variety of games and introducing clubs and organizations in Expo 2024, students could thrift articles of clothing to help other students in need.

“There were sweatshirts, there were jeans, there were some athletic apparel, there were belts, and there were even some purses that some people had donated to sell,” Duntz said.

The event also promoted and showed off the hard work of the clubs and organizations around MHS.

“The different foreign language clubs that we have had some food there that they gave samples for,” Duntz said. “This was also an opportunity for clubs and organizations to show off art that they’ve done.”

The Blue Notes jazz band was there to play as people shopped through the thrift. There was just an opportunity for students to help students and to showcase some different things we have at Manhattan High school.

While the event had lots of events going on, the turnout was not as desired.

“There was not as large of a turnout as we would’ve liked,” Duntz said. “Hopefully if we do it again next year we will do a better job advertising and hopefully do it on a better night when more people can come.”

StuCo hopes to try another go at the event next year.

“I don’t know if this has been something we’ve done in the past,” Duntz said, “but it sounds like it is something that has been done previously in Manhattan’s history and I thought it sounded like a really cool event that if we could get a better turnout it would’ve been really awesome.”
