Flower Kingdom Under Attack

Flower+Kingdom+Under+Attack
Hunter Flagg

Bowser has taken over the Flower kingdom and now the prince is looking to you for help; will you help him?

“Super Mario Bros. Wonder” came out Oct. 20, 2023. It was released by Nintendo and it is the first Mario game released in years.

Bowser looks even cooler than before in the game “Super Mario Bros. Wonder.” Bowser is a floating castle with cloud snakes floating around him, all of the clouds have different colors to represent the different kingdoms. The Flower Prince has some way of giving you some kind of ability. Which, I like as a new mechanic to the game; the only thing is that you can only have one ability equipped. There are a lot of different abilities, for example there is a hat gliding ability that allows you to stay in the air for longer than normal. There is a wall jump ability that allows you to jump up which is cool but it does not help most of the time. These are just a few of the incredible abilities you can have.

I really like the variety of characters you can play as. I personally played Daisy because it’s Daisy. She isn’t in the Mario games much. But there are multiple toads you can play as and a lot of Yoshis, as well as many other characters.

I really like the music levels and the new power ups. Some of the new power ups that are cool are the elephant power up, the drill power up and the bubble power up. The elephant power up allows you to fight enemies up close and spray water at enemies. The drill power up allows you to go into the ground, which allows for some different movement. The bubble power up allows you to hit enemies through walls and trap them in a bubble.

In my opinion “Super Mario Bros. Wonder” has a mix between the recent Kirby games and Mario games. The Kirby games I feel are always very random. I feel that “Super Mario Bros. Wonder” is very similar to the recent Kirby games. The Kirby powers are very similar to the powers in this Mario game. There is a water power in Kirby games and now we have the elephant ability that is very similar to that ability. There is also a drill power in “Super Mario Bros. Wonder” that is basically copied and pasted from “Kirby and the Forgotten Land.” I really like this change and the small mixture between the two games. One of the biggest changes in “Super Mario Bros. Wonder” is the feeling of being random.

One of the really big things that was in this game was the Wonder Seed. They would change the game in some extreme way. For example, one of the times you get the Wonder Seed it makes a train of bulls appear and you have to jump onto them and ride them to the end of the level. The Wonder time ends when you find the Wonder Seed at the end. I really liked this random feel when you ran into a Wonder Seed. When you run into a wonder seed you never know what is going to happen.

I really enjoyed the way Nintendo did the multiplayer in “Super Mario Bros. Wonder”. The way the multiplayer worked was nice for most of the game. But there were a few levels that I felt that it was made for one person and not multiples. Some of the levels were a lot easier because we had more people. I just wish Nintendo would have made it consistent with the levels being good for multiplayer and single player. Some levels when playing multiplayer it felt like I was being dragged along or I was dragging others along with me.

One thing that I wasn’t a big fan of was the boss fights. The boss fights were against Bowser Jr. and every time there would be some new mechanic but I didn’t ever feel that the added mechanic was making it harder.  One of the areas didn’t even have a boss fight.  I just wish they could have made the boss fights harder and more numerous.

Other than those points, I really enjoyed the game. The random feel, all the characters, and the new abilities made this game really fun to play as a single player and with friends and family. I found “Super Mario Bro. Wonder” really enjoyable overall.

If Flagg can find the time outside of class, he likes to be with friends as he likes people in general.  “I like writing and videography and stuff like that,” Flagg said. “Haven’t been able to do that because of school.” Flagg joined journalism with hopes of creating entertaining articles and having fun.  “I like all aspects of journalism, mainly videography,” Flagg said. “It allows me to bask in a job well done.” Flagg also has hopes of changing the yearbook for the better. Flagg believes the yearbook can get a bit cringy at times and he wants to stop that from happening.  “I thought the yearbook sounded cool to me,” he said. Flagg wants to be a sports correspondent to write more entertaining life filled articles.  “No offense to people in politics, but I don’t feel like the students care about it that much,” Flagg said. “I want to write about sports, current events and things that have an impact on student’s lives.” After high school, Flagg wants to join the military with no interest in continuing Journalism. Flagg says to anyone wanting to join journalism to “do it.” By Thurston Rogers Staff Writer
