The Manhattan Indians girls soccer team fell short to Mill Valley 2-1 in overtime on the road Friday.
“We got kind of tired towards the end of the game,” senior midfielder Jada Dibbini said. “I feel like kind of taking players on more and being more aggressive in the attack, we could have definitely had more opportunities.”
Sophomore forward Lauren Booe scored the Indians’ singular goal, which was her team-leading seventh of the season.
“She’s a very good soccer player and she’s also a very good leader,” Dibbini said. “So I’m really proud of how she’s been playing this season.”
The Indians narrowly beat the Topeka High Trojans 2-1 on April 22 at Bishop Stadium. The first 37 minutes of the game saw no scoring from either team. Then, with 2:48 left in the first half, Booe scored the first goal of the game from 15 yards out. The Trojan fired back, netting a goal eight minutes into the second half, equalizing the score to 1-1. With just under 19 minutes in regulation, junior forward Tess Henry scored the go-ahead goal off an on-point pass from freshman defender Avarye Meeker.
“I guess it’s kind of just how we practice it in warm ups,” Henry said. “And that kind of just hit perfectly on my foot and just landed good.”
The Indians held firm in the final minutes of the game, sealing their fourth win in Centennial League play.
“It’s good to just beat some teams that we know we can beat, because we’ll have harder games along the way,” Henry said.
The Indians had a record of 5-5 before squaring off against Trinity Academy Tuesday at Bishop Stadium.
“We’re playing a lot of hard teams and good teams,” Dibbini said. “So I think this is honestly going to prepare us for, hopefully, State and going into playing other teams, the harder teams that we play, the better that we get.”
