Seven games into their season, the Manhattan High Boys soccer team posted their first win on Sept. 16 against the Wichita South Titans before dropping a game on Sept. 20 against Blue Valley West, 0-3, to bring their win-loss record to 1-7
“After that first win we all got excited because it was our seventh game and we had been working really hard and it was just exciting to see that when we work hard we can win,” junior Micheal Ming said. “Everyone plays well together because we know each other’s strengths and weaknesses so we know where we can pass the ball and who might need some help, but now that we have won a game we are all aware that we can win if we keep working hard and pushing through.”
The team has officially played through half the season and have a total of eight determined games left. The 2025 season so far can be defined by resilience and a fierce commitment to the game. This year’s team has many underclassmen playing Varsity who haven’t even played on a high school team before this season.
“We have a young squad, we have like six guys on Varsity, two starting freshmen, and it’s a lot to ask from people that are young,” freshman Mateo Sanchez said. “I hope we can flip the season around a bit more and get a winning record and compete in the playoffs in the end.”
Their next game will be Sept. 30, against the Junction City Blue Jays at Junction City, with J.V. playing at 5:30 p.m. and Varsity kickoff is at 7 p.m.
