High School hallways have always been the place that is incredibly disorderly and chaotic for those five minutes of passing period. I believe there can and should be order in the hallways that can both be educational and practical.
If traffic laws were used in school it would help students get used to traffic laws that they would learn in Drivers Ed. This would help students learn about the fast lane and slow lane. Teaching yielding in door ways would also be helpful for traffic, especially if you are trying to turn into traffic.
Actual traffic laws in the roads keep people from running into each other for the most part and keeps everything organized. If we could just implement these traffic laws into our school hallways this would keep people form running into each other as well as keeping peak efficiency.
I am not suggesting that we get the floor painted with white and yellow lines but it isn’t a bad idea. It would help enforce the mentality of keeping traffic rules in the hallways. People would just follow the rules out of habit and it would be good practice for normal driving.
Since the Personal Electronic Policy, phones are constantly being used in the hallway unless one is talking to another person while walking. This can cause some obstructions to the flow of traffic in the hallways. People generally walk slower while on their phone, which affects everyone behind them. This isn’t really an issue if the person who is on their phone is alone and doesn’t have anyone on their side maintaining the same pace. But if there is a way to pass them everything is fine.
As long as people are more aware of their surroundings and practice actual traffic laws in the hallways people can get to class more efficiently and avoid running into people. I know not all traffic laws can be followed because we don’t have traffic lights, but we can all follow general laws like staying to the right and allowing people to take left turns.
As long as everyone in the halls is more considerate of other people who want to pass them, things in the hallways would be nicer for people who want to get to class and prepare for a few minutes. This would allow students who want to pass and get to class quickly to do that, as well as individuals who want to take their sweet time to get into class.
