The Manhattan High girl’s Varsity golf team picked up its first victory of the season last Tuesday. The team won the nine-hole tournament against 12 other teams at the Salina Central Invitational with a score of 174. Salina Central placed second with a score of 186, and Clay Center following in third with a score of 192.

Sophomore Macie Myers won the Tournament overall in a sudden death playoff on the first hole against Junction City’s Madison Roether, both scoring a 36.

“I really felt good playing at the Tournament, but there is always more room for me to improve,” Myers said.

Sophomore Lydia Fry, who is playing for her first time on the Varsity team, placed fourth in the Salina Central Invitational with a score of 43. Fry was at 42 points, when she arrived 25 feet away from the hole Tuesday evening.

“I was very nervous,” Fry said.

She took the shot and drained the ball in the hole, scoring her best nine-hole yet. With only six games left, the Lady Indians look to improve their performance at their next tournament, the Salina South Invitational on Monday.
