Manhattan High boys golf has continued their consistency into the heart of the season. At midseason, the Indians are yet to drop out of the top five and have had a finalist in the top 15 at every one of their five meets.
Most recently, at the Washburn Rural Great Plains Classic on April 9, the Indians put together a team score of 310 strokes, 26 over par. They landed in fifth place overall, falling to Blue Valley North, Blue Valley West, and Shawnee Mission East in first, second, and third respectively. Sophomore Charley Haney highlighted MHS’ performance, finishing in 11th. Haney put together a 75-stroke game, only four over par.
At the Firekeeper Open hosted by Washburn Rural on April 21, Manhattan took home fourth place. Collectively, the Indians finished with 310 strokes, 22 over par. MHS was narrowly bested by Shawnee Mission East’s score of 287 in first place and second placed Blue Valley North’s 306. Haney scored 68 on the course, the first time any Indian had finished under par all season. He finished in second and earned medalist honors.
Manhattan High hosted their only varsity home tournament on April 13 at Manhattan Country Club. The Indians, defending their turf, won the event with a score of 312 strokes, 23 over par. They topped the podium, leaving Wamego and Tonganoxie to take home silver and bronze. Individually, two Indians medaled — senior Cade Cochran in first and Haney in second.
At the Wamego Invitational, the Indians placed second with a score of 303 strokes, 23 over par. They were bested by first place Olathe Northwest’s score of 301 but topped third-place Blue Valley Northwest. Both Haney and senior Cooper Graham finished even-par at 72. However, Haney ended tied for third and Graham finished in seventh.
MHS will take to the green again in Hutchinson on May 1 and then will head to League at Hayden on May 5.
