AFS participates in parade

On Sept. 27, members of the American Field Society took a trip to Medicine Lodge to meet other exchange students from all over Kansas. Together, they participated in the annual commemoration of the Treaty of Medicine Lodge. Held every five years, the original pageant only included farmers and workers who reenacted the treaty signing. But it now includes foreign exchange students in Kansas.

“We were walking in the parade where we showed our flags from all the countries. There were a lot of other people in the parade like natives,” sophomore Catharine Knudsen said. “It went really long. Two hours where they were riding on horses and were shooting all the time.”

Despite the long parade, the exchange students enjoyed having the opportunity to learn more about American culture and even meet people from other parts of the world.

“It was nice meeting a person that come from another part of the world,” Noemi Facchetti said. “Then there was American food with corn and average turkey leg. Something real American. I liked that.”
