On Thursday, the Manhattan High Junior Varsity volleyball team traveled to Topeka High for a three-game event.

“Junction City and Emporia went well. Topeka High, we underestimated them a bit,” sophomore Meg Auten said. JV comes off a victory against Emporia last Thursday night in which they won in two straight sets, 25-9 in the first set and 25-12 in the second set

“We started to play at their level instead of ours,” sophomore Raegan Wilcoxson said. “The second match, we stepped it up and started playing at our level. We beat them by a lot more.”

The girls won six straight sets.

Varsity will play their next game today in North Gym at 5 p.m. The games will be held in awareness for breast cancer and serve as the team’s senior recognition night. The girls will be up against Highland Park, Emporia, and Washburn Rural in the “Dig Pink Invitational.” Coach Lisa Kinderknecht hopes to come out with three wins when the night is done.

“Emporia is better this year than previous years,” Kinderknecht said.

The Lady Indians will face their rivals, Junction City, on Tuesday, Oct. 20.
