Volleyball takes sub-state

On Saturday, the Varsity volleyball team travelled to Washburn Rural for the 6A sub-state tournament.

“Our games went really well,” junior middle blocker Gigi McAtee said. “We just all pulled it together and played as a team. We have been struggling with our blocks all season so it’s good to see us get there.”

The team played against many strong teams such as Lawrence Free State.

“We played really well, kept the energy up for the most part,” senior hitter Raegan Terrill said. “Free State … they’re big but we handled them pretty well. First game against Free State was pretty close, but the rest of the day we pretty much took care of business.”

The team’s last match was played against Wichita East. The girls pulled out on top and won the tournament.

“It was awesome,” Terrill said.

The team will play at the Topeka Expocentre this Friday for a possible two-day tournament for the state title.

“It’s my first time going to state,” Terrill said. “Hopefully we move onto Saturday.”
