Paramore celebrates tenth birthday

From “Misery Business” to “Still Into You,” Paramore has always been able to write and produce quality music and have proven this plenty of times throughout their now-10-year career.

The band has gone through its ups and downs just like any group, and with countless rumors of separation and solo projects, the road has definitely been a rocky one. Regardless of these roadblocks, the band has still been able to come out on top time and time again.

Paramore, like most bands, started from humble beginnings. The band began in Franklin, TN as a small group of friends who were just trying to make music. Their lives changed drastically once they released their first full length album, “All We Know Is Falling.” Today, 10 years after the birth of this record, the band’s sound and image have changed drastically. While they are no longer known for their more rock inspired vocals, Paramore is still a force to be reckoned with while they bring the worlds of pop and rock together.

Paramore’s success could easily be measured in their record sales or their awards. But those just doesn’t do the band justice. The easiest way to see the band’s influence, in the music world and out, is simply to look at the fans. Lead singer Hayley Williams has inspired hundreds of girls everywhere to not only be themselves, but also that it’s okay to follow your dreams. Even Lynn Gunn, lead singer of the band PVRIS, was affected and inspired by the raw power of WIlliams’ performance.

“You see someone else doing that up there and you’re like, ‘I could do that, she’s just like me,’” Gunn says. “That was a realization point, because she was a young girl … just going up and completely killing it. I can do that if I want to.”

Still, the band’s success can’t be truly recognized without talking about their pitfalls, if you will. Since the formation of the band in early 2004, the group has lost five members; almost six when bass guitarist Jeremy Davis departed in 2005 although Davis could not stay away for long, returning only five months later. Of the five lost members, two were original members Zac and Josh Farro. It has been stated that the Farro brothers left because of the amount of attention Williams was receiving, instead of the band as a unit. The Farro brothers have really missed out, considering the leaps and bounds the band has made since their departure.

One of Paramore’s strongest qualities is their ability to put on an amazing live performance. Whether they are playing at Warped Tour on a small stage or in an amphitheater on their own headlining tour, Williams’ vocals are still crystal clear, and the talent of the rest of the band is almost superior to their recorded albums. Every asset of a Paramore concert has been thought out to the last detail, and it shows. The energy of every member is high from beginning to end of every set. Williams never stops dancing and interacting with fans, and lead guitarist Taylor York’s curly mop can be seen bopping along to every word and every note. This is a band who is clearly at home on stage. The relationship between Paramore crowds and the band is almost symbiotic. The band feeds off the insane energy that the crowd happily gives off, and audience members take and take, hanging onto every last syllable, every last note.

Paramore has been together for 10 years. They have produced five albums, won 26 awards, and have built up one of the strongest, most loyal fanbases I’ve ever had the pleasure of witnessing and being a part of. While all good things must end, I firmly believe that Paramore will keep going for as long as they can.
