Most students spent their winter break watching Netflix, skiing or visiting family. However, three juniors decided to use their break to go abroad and visit old friends and explore Europe.

Juniors Caroline Cassou, Abby Whitney and Madison Johnson traveled to Bilbao, Spain over winter break to visit some of Cassou’s friends. Cassou’s parents took a sabbatical there when she was in early elementary school and she used to visit her friends every summer.

“It got harder to go back as I got older because of sports, so we normally go every other year,” Cassou said. “My friends in Spain are graduating this year so this was my last opportunity to see my class there and I thought it would be great to bring two of my best friends and show them what life in Bilbao is like.”

The girls took time to shop on Gran Via, a long street full of shops, and at the art market. Part of the adventure included hikes in the mountains which provided a view of the whole city, and the opportunity to visit Guggenheim, which is a museum of modern art. After touring through Spain, the girls ventured through Italy.

By the end of the trip, Whitney decided it wasn’t her last time in Spain.

“I am definitely going back,” Whitney said. “I already told my family I am taking them [to Spain].”
