Differing viewpoints deserve respect

In your everyday life, you come across different viewpoints. These viewpoints or opinions are expressed by everyone, everywhere and by everything. And sometimes, people’s views and opinions are forcefully shoved down your throat.

I get that, as people, we have the right to have our own opinions, and as Americans we have the right to express them. But where’s that line where expressing your opinions is crossed? Is there a point where you should step back from expressing your viewpoints to others?

Often times, I don’t give my true, unfiltered opinions on things because I know that it’s better to let things lie as they are, and not disrupt the peace, per se. When I do express my true opinions, I get often am rebuked for having my own viewpoints that don’t match up with others. Do you see the problem here?

In our society, there is a tendency to shove our views on people, whether they agree with you or not. If someone does not agree with your way of thinking, you often assume that they are wrong, even when the opposite is true.

Aren’t we expected to accept everyone for who they are instead of rebuking them?

Everyone is unique in their own way, whether that stems from viewpoints or personalities. And as people we need to grasp the idea that not everyone is the same as you, and will never be the same as you.

Sadly this isn’t the case. Most of the times, if who you are doesn’t align with someone else, you get berated, this is the same for viewpoint.

So why doesn’t our society allow people to express their own opinions without fear of being ostracized?

Instead of ostracizing others we should learn to accept. Accept others’ and their opinions, because they aren’t going away anytime soon.
