Swim and dive reflects on season

The Manhattan High swim and dive team competed in Topeka over the weekend for their State Meet. Using the times that were recorded at their League event the previous week, the teams determined what events they competed in and who went to the State meet.

“We had a solid meet,” senior swimmer Matthew Bandy said. “In prelims, we had two divers and we had all three relays go. I swam individually.”

No relay team passed the preliminary round but Bandy and one diver made it to the finals.

“Those [the relays] barely got knocked out in the prelims,” senior Sam Nelson said. “It was top 16 teams that got to finals so those got knocked down at a couple 18 place finishes. Matt Bandy advanced in both his individuals in the 500 free and 100 breast. Carter Nelson, our diver, made it to the last day at ninth place.”

Both teams failed to create enough ground and placed 18 overall by the end of State. While they did not place high, some members reflect that the season went well.

“We had a very solid season,” Bandy said. “We had a little bit of a rough start. We took a lot of seconds this year. As the season went on, we had a lot of the new swimmers find their groove. It was a good season overall.”
