Malik’s debut album applies new sound

Zayn Malik has taken the world by storm with his debut album “Mind Of Mine.”

His first hit single, “Pillowtalk” was extremely popular and still holds a spot on the iTunes charts. “Mind of Mine” is the first album Malik has released since the split with One Direction over a year ago. The typical pop vocals and backtracks found in most radio singles were far from the genre Malik was leading his fans to when he released “Pillowtalk.” Maintaining the soulful feel and R&B sound, Malik released several of the tracks before the full album was released. Featuring the song “Like I Would,” Malik keeps a similar beat and vibe when it comes to his music. Although the lyrics were different in both of the songs, they contained the same underlying sound. This sound is completely different from the music he was featured in a year ago with One Direction. The soulful melodies and the soft vocals combine to make a new genre for his fans.

“Mind of Mine: Deluxe” contains 18 tracks all having a similar sound. While both catchy and creative, Malik brings his sound to a whole new level. He also added a collaboration to his album, featuring popular artist Kehlani. The album topped the charts with the help of the release of a few tracks prior to the full album release as a preview of “Mind Of Mine.”

The album was expected to succeed and is proving those predictions by climbing up to the number one album on iTunes. Malik has said in interviews that he is constantly in the studio writing and recording new music, so an additional album may be expected in the future. This was only the beginning to Malik’s solo career.
