Tubman deserving of place on $20 bill

Recently, there has been a debate concerning the removal of Andrew Jackson on the 20 dollar bill and replacing him with slavery hero Harriet Tubman. Along with this change, a few of the other bills are under consideration to change to female figures as well. In 1928, the current faces of the bills were determined and have remained the same ever since. In fact, the United States has a law that no living person can be on the bills. Each person on the face of a bill has a significant reason for being on there. George Washington was the first President and was a war hero, Abraham Lincoln had the Emancipation Proclamation as a first step against slavery, and now Harriet Tubman will be recognized for her brave acts to save slaves.

The addition of Harriet Tubman to United States currency and changing the face of a 20 dollar bill is not a bad idea. However, it will take over the course of a decade to integrate the currency into the United States while the Jackson 20 is still in use. One of the common flaws found in this idea is the curiosity of what will happen to the current 20 dollar bill. This will not deface the value of the Jackson 20 and it will remain usable.

Harriet Tubman is well deserving of a spot on United States currency considering her bravery, courage and heroic actions in the time of slavery. She helped thousands of slaves cross to the North without getting caught. A reward was up for her arrest which would amount to over one million dollars in modern money. Tubman beat the odds as a female and an African American and is without a doubt a United States hero.

Essentially the change of design on the 20 dollar bill and other changes will make it more like the United States quarter. Similar to the quarter, they will essentially have the same general design. However, the 20 will be an entirely different face and back design.

Although the changes will not change much in society or the way the currency works, if they want to change the face of the 20 then Harriet Tubman is a remarkable selection.

She is well-deserving of the honor.
