With State just around the corner, the girls swim team has been busy with several meets. They took on multiple teams from Topeka at a home meet. Placing third, the team was confident in its performance.

“It was a good meet; it was fast. Everyone really stepped up and we had a lot of people getting their best times and support,” sophomore Victoria Bedros said.

The team nearly placed higher, but secured their spot in third.

“We got third and we were between third and second, I was in the last relay race that we were supposed to get points for. We closed the gap, but not enough to pass them,” Bedros said.

An additional home meet was held on the April 18, the team competing against Emporia and Hays High School. With an overall placing of second, the girls improved from their previous meet.  They were content with their finish.

“We got second despite not having a lot of people there due to injuries and sickness,” sophomore Eilish MacCharles said.

As a team, they strive to have fun at all the meets as well as compete.

“Our goal as a team is to just get out there and have a good time and make sure everyone tries their hardest,” Bedros said.

State is creeping up and to qualify will require hard work.

“We only have about three or four meets, I have hope for state,” MacCharles said. “If we really push ourselves we can do it.”
