After a loss that would end the Manhattan girls soccer team recent streak of decisive wins, the Lady Indians avenged that loss to Wichita Northwest and turned it into two more decisive wins for their season. Starting with a 13-0 shutout against Highland Park and followed with a 7-2 victory against Hayden, Manhattan brought their record to 10-4 for the season.

Still, the team has plenty to improve on according to junior defender Karmen Martinie.

“During our halftime talks we say we’re going to do all of these different things but we end up not putting them into action,” Martinie said.

Manhattan is very close to playoff season prompting players look farther than just those few upcoming games.

“I’m hoping we can pick it up still but if we play like we can and we should then we have a good chance [at a deep playoff run],” junior defender Molly Smith said.

With upcoming games against rivals Junction City and Shawnee Heights and the Centennial League champions being decided, head coach Mike Sanchez is confident in his team.

“This year has been a bit up and down with injuries and illnesses,” Sanchez said. “I still think we’ll be strong [at Centennial].”
