With the regular season coming to a close, there was still one thing for the Manhattan girls soccer team to accomplish before its year came to an inevitable end: the annual victory against their rivals Junction City. This year was no different for the Lady Indians as they defeated the Lady Blue Jays with a mercy rule win of 10-0 in their senior night game.

Seniors Brooke Henry and Maddie Taylor both struck two goals in their final regular season home game. Sophomores Sadie Samenus, Tessa Irvine and Addy Stone also contributed to Manhattan’s triumph with goals of their own. This was also Manhattan’s fifth shutout of the year.

“I think we’ve done a decent job [defensively],” junior defender Molly Smith said.

MHS then finished its regular season with an away win against Shawnee Heights which brought its record to a final 12-4 for the season.

“There were times where we weren’t working together as well as a team as we could have, but we’re peaking right now and we’re working really well together now and that’s right where we want to be for the playoffs,” Junior Gabriella Radina said.

With the post season on the horizon, the Lady Indians reflect upon an injury-filled season which they overcame.

“We have to take it one game at a time and just see where it takes us,” sophomore forward Hannah Religa said.

She scored four goals in the regular season.

“We really want to get to state and try to win it. One of our goals was to beat Washburn and we did that so if we can play [how] we did then, we can win,” Smith said.

The Lady Indians played their first round playoff game yesterday.
