Back to losing ways.

The Manhattan High boys soccer team fell to 1-5 in the season after Tuesday’s 2-0 home loss to Seaman, continuing their bad form that has been haunting them since the start of the season. After a scoreless first half, the visitors took two long shots in the second half, both which went past Indian junior goalkeeper Zachary Bergeron and fit into the right corner of the Manhattan goal.

“We didn’t take our chances and we didn’t play as a team,” junior forward Modou Faburay said. ”It was just sloppy everywhere.”

This was Faburay’s first game back from injury, wearing once again the famous number 10 jersey, a symbol of tradition and respect in soccer.

“I wasn’t my best,” Faburay said. “I didn’t take my chances when I had them.”

Within the final minutes of the game, J.V. players came in to the pitch, including backup junior goalkeeper Manny Diaz, benching Varsity players after the 2-0 deficit proved too much. The six-time defending regional champions now only have one win in six games

“Midfielders didn’t do that good,” Diaz said. “There was no communication on the midfield.”

After a brief re-tryout process instituted by coach Frank Alonso earlier in the season, the punishment for Indians, at least for the ones on Varsity, is still to be seen or announced.

“There will be some J.V. players going up,” Diaz said. “There will also be some [Varsity players] going down.”

The Indians will face rivals Washburn Rural today at Washburn.
