Indiana families react to lead-contaminated housing

The West Calumet Housing Complex of East Chicago had been scheduled for demolition on Friday night due to hazardous lead contamination in the building. Though the majority of families residing in the complex have relocated, nearly 50 families are remaining, awaiting their own emergency moves.

Colombian landslide wreaks havoc

In southwest Colombia’s Putumayo province, Saturday’s heavy rains have led to hazardous landslides ravaging the town. As of Monday, the landslides have resulted in approximately 206 deaths and numerous injuries. Various infrastructure in the area has also been damaged. Colombian President Juan Manuel Santos has announced the nation to be in an official state of emergency.
