Seniors look forward to continuing music later

Last Thursday Manhattan High had their last orchestra concert of they year. Some of the seniors are sad to be ending their journey.

“I have been in orchestra all four years of high school,” Senior Audrey Pickering said. “As a group, I felt that we were more unified [this concert].  We knew our own individual parts, this then allowed us to start listening more to each other and all create music together.”

Although sad that her high school time is over, Pickering has plans for the future.

“I am joining K-state orchestra,” Pickering said. “I did not think I would go to K-State, but for my first year of college it makes the most sense to go there. My cello teacher [Dr. David Littrell] is the conductor and I am looking forward to working with him.”

Other students are sad to be leaving, but excited to start the next step in their journey.

“I’ll be attending ksu for music ed and clarinet will be my primary instrument and violin will be my second,” Senior Peri Carney said. “Audition for ensembles are the 1st week of school so hopefully I’ll make one of the orchestras.”

Carney says it wasn’t until her senior year that she realized what she wanted to do.

“One day I was talking to my mom about what I should major in and she had told me ‘Well you can’t major in band Peri’ and then I thought well why not music is my passion. So we went from there,” Carney said.
