Mayweather v McGregor fight does not disappoint

Two years of trash talk and hype culminated into one night, just a measly 12 three-minute rounds after two years of build up. Floyd “Money” Mayweather faced off against “The Notorious” Conor McGregor, to give fans around the world the best show available on television.

The fight had so much hype surrounding it, with both fighters predicting a knockout of the other, neither giving ground in their pre-fight stand offs. Many Mayweather fans, including myself, were very disappointed in the fight that took him to his record tying 49-0 against Manny Pacquiao; in that fight two years ago Mayweather did little attacking and only slipped punches and had a few strong counters. Neither fighter landed many hits on the other resulting with the judges making the decision after the twelfth round.

Mayweather knew of the disappointment the fight was to the millions of fans that watched it so he promised that his final fight, against McGregor, would end in a knockout, with punches flying from both sides.

Mayweather held up his promise and provided one of the most entertaining boxing matches of our generation. McGregor came out swinging each round and it looked as if he had Mayweather on the ropes after the first few rounds, but Mayweather finally figured out McGregor in the sixth round and dazzled the audience with a flurry of punches and counters finally beating McGregor in the tenth round with the referee stopping the fight early after a succession of punches by Mayweather that McGregor was not able to defend.

The fight was one of the most exciting, interesting things I’ve been blessed to witness. Through all the trash talk and badgering back and forth, we got to see arguably the best boxer ever face off against an inexperienced boxer, but the best MMA fighter of our generation in McGregor, who did not disappoint. With McGregor’s interesting fight style, Mayweather became confused and was not able to slip punches like he did in the Pacquiao fight. McGregor was able to land 30 more punches than Pacquiao did two years ago, which leads many of us to wonder if McGregor could have a career in boxing. If he were to attempt to make a career out of boxing he would have to gain more stamina as in the 10th round he was too tired to even defend himself from the punches that came from Mayweather causing the official to step in and end the fight.

Overall the fight lived up to many of my expectations providing fans around the world with great entertainment. This fight was the biggest event in the last 10 years, with betting being higher than even the Super Bowl. There were so many pay per view orders that the fight was delayed on television because the channel crashed and had to be rebooted.

Although the fight was very outmatched in favor of Mayweather, everyone was interested to see what McGregor could do the the best in the world, and he gave him a run for his money and gave all of us, the fans, what we truly wanted — an intense fight.
