Stephen King’s ‘IT’ upcoming remake wins over horror fans

When you think of horror movie classics, Stephen King’s “IT” is definitely one of them. Despite being released 27 years ago, it still gives children the heebie jeebies. But to filmmakers, one “IT” just isn’t enough. On September 8th, 2017 the classic IT remake was released. Manhattan High’s horror fanatics are very excited about the upcoming release.

“When I was a child and I first watched ‘IT’, I was not really scared of it but I remember I liked it but I just didn’t think it was scary,” junior Kenzie Dick said.

Movie production in the horror film industry has definitely changed in the past 27 years. The original 1990 production of the film had a budget of $12 million, while the 2017 remake had a budget of $35 million. There is also a drastic difference in how they portray animation and story lines now a days.

“From the trailers, they definitely have upped their spooky game from the older ‘IT,’” Dick said.

The IT filmmakers have remade the clown and added more visual effects to hopefully scare more children and adults than the early ‘90s film. Personally, I think the new ‘IT’ will be much more professionally made and will give people nightmares.

Warner Bros. released the new thriller trailer on March 29 at CinemaCon and received many positive responses. In the first 24 hours the trailer had 197 million views globally. Since it’s Friday release, worldwide the film has made $179,150,000, which is well over the projected amount.

A lot of the time when filmmakers remake a classic movie like ‘IT’ they stray away from the original plot but this trailer portrays the plot in a genuinely scary way while being true to the plot. The main difference in plot between the original film and the remake is that it only follows the kids through the summer. The original film follows the group into adulthood.

Even though it’s hard to make a concrete opinion about a movie trailer, I think it’s going to please many people who enjoyed the original movie.

Overall, I have faith in this movie to be just as good, possibly better, than the original thriller and I predict to see many good reviews when it comes out. Since it’s release, the film has brought in an 86 percent rating on Rotten Tomatoes and an 8.6/10 on IMDB.
