Four SkillsUSA members rise to the occasion

For the first time, four SkillsUSA members from MHS were elected as district officers. These students include Zach Payne as president, Autumn Allard as vice president, Kylie Voelker as secretary, and Alison Allard as treasurer.

The SkillsUSA chapter at MHS attended the District 2 Leadership Conference on Sept. 18 with many of the 12 other schools located in the North Central district. While at the conference, the members were given the chance to hear from the keynote speaker Lyle Butler, President of the Manhattan Chamber of Conference.

Butler touched on important topics such as the growing need for “skilled” labor both in Manhattan and Kansas in general. After the session, the members in attendance were given the opportunity to ask any questions they had.

It was following this speech that the district elections were held and four MHS students were elected into office. Along with receiving these titles, they will be required to attend the Fall Leadership Conference held in Augusta, Kansas on Oct. 9 and Oct. 10. In addition to attending the conference, they will be responsible for facilitating the event and helping it run smoothly.
