After winning eight consecutive league titles, Varsity Girls and Boys went to Milford to compete for another success at Regionals this past Saturday. Varsity Girls won regionals with 33 points and Varsity Boys won with the same score, both qualifying for state in Lawrence on the 28th.

Varsity captain senior Cooper Schroeder won the boys race with a time of 16:24.

“It felt good to get another win at regionals and our team went in expecting to make it to state and we ran hard and got the job done,” Schroeder said. “But our main goal is to do well at the State meet. This week we will not be doing as [many] miles so that we are more fresh for Saturday. State is always a one of a kind experience, where the best of the state are competing, so nothing will be easy.”

Varsity has worked hard all season to get the success they’ve achieved and will continue to do so at State.

Varsity runner junior Clara Mayfield won the girls race with a time of 19:04.

“It feels good to win and it’s definitely something we don’t want to take advantage of, but our main focus is state,” Mayfield said. “ We’ve been preparing for state all season and now it’s time for us to get some rest and get ready to run fast.”

The team is finally taking some time to prepare for State and also getting some time to rest up for the challenge ahead.

“I feel confident going into state and I’m excited for a challenge, it’s definitely going to be a hard race,” Mayfield said. “It’s taken a lot of work and we don’t want to take winning for granted, a lot of teams don’t get the opportunity to get to state.”

Both Varsity Boys and Girls will be using their teamwork and determination to compete for the  State Championship.
