‘Happy Death Day’ confusing, entertaining

Halloween is the time for eating a butt-load of candy and, of course, watching scary movies. One scary movie, “Happy Death Day,” released on Friday the 13th — the perfect day to release a thriller — has been a hit in theaters.

The movie is about a women in college named Tree Gelbman, who does not  appear to be the kindest person. She lives in a sorority, where her house sisters are throwing a surprise birthday party.

As she walks to her sorority house at night, she comes across some sort of musical figurine in a tunnel right before she hit the house. As she walks up to the figurine, the box starts to play “Happy Birthday” to her and she thinks one of her friends are playing a joke on her or just trying scare her. When she yells out for one of her friends to reveal themselves, no one responds. Therefore Tree starts to become paranoid and anxious.

Moments later Tree turns around and there at the end of the tunnel someone awaits her. This stranger starts to chase her and then ends up somewhere else. After that night she immediately wakes up in the same place as the night before. Therefore she keeps reliving the same day over and over again in order to solve her own murder.

When she wakes up at first she is confused and thinks it was just a dream. As the day goes on things happen that have already happened to her before. She starts wondering why people start to say things that they have already said.

The movie kept me on the edge of my seat and things were happening that you wouldn’t expect, which was cool because you would think that you know what’s going to happen next, considering Tree is reliving the same day. You also start to expect certain people that she’s close with to be her murderer, but throughout the movie you start to realize who her real friends are, such as Carter Davis, who is always there when she wakes up, and people who are not, like most of her sorority sisters.

The fact that the movie has a lot of humor in it makes it 10 times better because most of the jokes and punch lines. Generally having humor in a scary movie always makes the film seem more enjoyable, rather than just covering your eyes and ears to avoid the loud jump scares. The movie had a very good mixture of jump-scares, laughs and even some heartfelt moments between the characters. Not only was “Happy Death Day” a typical thriller, it also incorporated important life lessons that show people the outcomes of certain behavior.

Overall “Happy Death Day” is a movie that keeps you entertained, and also very confused at the same time, which makes for a stirring Halloween.
