The physical mascot was not the only committee recommendation discussed at the USD 383 Board of Education meeting Wednesday night.

Assistant Superintendent Eric Reid gave a report on the status of the renaming of the commons to be the Frank Prentup Commons. According to Reid, there will be a ceremony at the halftime of the boys basketball game on Feb. 23 dedicating the commons to Frank Prentup. Reid reported that members of the Prentup family will be there to accept the honor. The district is looking to bring a company in to put Prentup’s name in the commons.

Superintendent Marvin Wade also reported on the status of the district Diversity Committee he was directed to create. He said he needs to be more aggressive in making sure the group is all-representative.

“We need the voices of some of those who are more hesitant to speak up,” Wade said.

As such, there is not much progress with the Diversity Committee.

The inclusion of local Native American history, religion, culture and contemporary issues in curriculur and professional learning considerations of the district and the student scholarship/teacher grant in Frank Prentup’s name were not reported on.
