“Just the Beginning” a success for new musician
December 12, 2017
Grace Vanderwaal’s newly released album, “Just the Beginning,” is not only pleasant to listen to, but combines light, upbeat melodies with dark sounding tones to create a unique style all her own.
The album, which includes 12 original songs, was released on Nov. 3 and is the first full length project the 13 year old singer has made since the release of her last album, “Perfectly Imperfect”. It made its debut on the Billboard 200 shortly after its release and is quickly climbing to a higher standard. This album is second in her repertoire of music credited under her name and is becoming a well-known must have to people that appreciate indie style music.
The album highlights Vanderwaal’s talent with the ukulele as well as her skills with singing. Ranging from low octaves and simple chords to higher notes with complex fingerings, Vanderwaal is able to perfectly display her array of expertise within the music industry.
Vanderwaal also demonstrates a distinct aptitude for writing detailed lyrics that depict the struggles of her own life. Songs such as “Sick of Being Told” and “Escape My Mind” tell her unique story through a musical medium and includes the passion so sorely missing from current artists.
The album is easy to warm up to as it includes the quality and enthusiasm missing from most music today. The songs have enjoyable melodies and the lyrics can relate to most teenagers going through ordeals of their own. Her music is able to speak on an emotional level to those who listen to it.
Her self-expression through her music is what makes Vanderwaal the accomplished young artist she is today and is what will eventually assist her in becoming a stronger influence within the minds of listeners. “Just the Beginning” is a great example of what the music industry has been lacking and shows that age is just a number when it comes to being a musician.
