First Choir Concert

After the cancellation of their quarter one concert, Manhattan High students finally got a chance to showcase their talents.  Varsity choir started the evening off followed by Pops, Bel’ Voce, and the freshman women’s choir. The groups performed a limited number of pieces in order to ensure the concert did not become too long for viewers. After a brief intermission, Chamber choir ended the night.

“ I’m a part of Pops and Chamber,” senior Wyatt Balman said. “The performance went really well, I think the audience really enjoyed it.”

All of the choir groups practiced and put a lot of time into their performance.

“I love the feeling of performing and knowing that we came together and got to do something really cool,” senior Grace Mosier said. “ I think what we struggled with is keeping our tempo on our piece “Anna Sun” but in the end it wasn’t too bad. There’s always room to improve and grow as a choir but all things considered, I think we’re in a pretty good place right now. “

Some students struggled with personal problems that affected the way they performed, but managed to push the struggles behind to give a great concert.

“My least favorite part was being sick throughout the whole thing, and making certain notes that are hard to hit,” Junior Jake Wineland said. “I personally struggled with memorization particularly in [the song] “Anna Sun” but I was able to get it right just in time for the performance, along with the other members of the tenor section.”

Personal problems weren’t the only thing that held some students back, but group problems as well.

“Some things we need to work on is communication and listening to each other. Sometimes we would come in at the wrong time,” Balman said. “ My favorite part about the concert was “Flight Song”, it had a lot of dynamic changes and it was really soothing to the ear. I really enjoy the soft songs the most, I feel like it creates a special bond to the choir and audience and kinda connects us together.”

Despite the struggles they faced, all of the Manhattan High choir groups were able to perform well and have fun while still entertaining the audience.
