Every athlete dreams of hitting the game-winning shot to win the championship. Senior Kennedy Wilson got to do just that. With seconds remaining in a tied game, Wilson hit a layup to give Manhattan the lead for good over Derby.

“I was just praying that the ball would go into the basket and that I wasn’t going to miss it,” Wilson said. “I was very happy that it went in the basket, and just focused on getting a stop and not letting them get another basket.”

Throughout the game, Wilson was focused on stopping Derby’s main threat, 6-6 sophomore Kennedy Brown.

“[We had to play] as hard as we can to keep the ball out of her hands,” Wilson said. “Once she got it, just being straight up and between her and the basket.”
