To celebrate the last day of Hispanic Heritage Month, Manhattan High’s Hispanic Student Union/Spanish Club came together Friday Oct. 15, to watch the movie “Vivo” and collect food for the food pantry.

“It was fun,” senior, Camila Gomez, Spanish Club vice president, said. “It was our first event for HSU this year.”

The Spanish Club strives to inform their members more about different hispamic cultures.

“The movie was to show there is more than just Mexican culture, since Vivo is a movie that takes place in Cuba and Florida,” senior Lizeth Flores, Spanish Club president, said. “It shows more of their culture.”

The members of the Asian Student Union and the Black Student Union were all invited to share in the Cuban culture represented in the movie.

“We wanted to support them whenever they have events as well,” Gomez said.

Students gathered for a fun way to spend their weekend.

“The purpose was to show the Cuban culture, to all the Hispanic students, and other students,” Carmen Wilson, Spanish teacher and sponsor of the Spanish Club, said.
