Freshmen Maegan Ackerman and Ella Adams are embracing their new roles as club leaders for the Students Against Sexual Violence club that was passed down to them.

“The purpose of SASV is to raise awareness, provide support, and provide a community wide conscious of sexual violence,” Ackerman said. The reason we’re kind of revitalizing it as freshman is because last year, everyone graduated. So there was no one to…hand it down to.”

The pair are dedicated to reclaiming the club as their own and have slowly started to make it a more dominant thing in the school body.

As far as events and goals, the future is unwritten but has a general direction in which way they want the club to go in. As of right now, there is no set date for when the club will meet. However, communication will take place through the StudentSquare app once there are more people actively involved in the club.

Ackerman voiced her thoughts on how important consent in all types of relationships is and how healthy and unhealthy relationships differ. SASV hopes on working with school staff to see what support they can provide to encourage consent to students and start normalizing it.

With Ackerman and Adams both being freshmen, it’s especially empowering to younger people who aspire to have their voices clearly heard by many. “Our main goal right now is to…just grow the club and get more members,” Ackerman said. “We’re looking for…anyone to join, we want a lot more perspectives.”
