The Lady Indians Varsity volleyball team finished the season last weekend with a final record of 17-21 on Saturday. The team played their SubState game at Washburn Rural High School. They were ranked as the 8 seed out of 18 teams total. They started off their day playing Derby who was the 9 seed. Manhattan sweeped Derby in three sets with finals scores of 27-25 Manhattan, 25-22 Derby and 27-25 Manhattan. Later that day they fell to Washburn in two sets.

“Today was a very emotional day. Not only was it the last day playing with all the seniors, but we wanted to beat Washburn so bad,” junior right side hitter Faith Kartchovil said. “Beating Derby was in some way relieving. We have worked very hard throughout the entire season and we finally connected during the Derby game as a team.”

The three seniors — Aubree Hoffman, Wesley Zeka, and Whitney Larchick — made a huge impact on this year’s season. Zekas ranked fourth in 6A with 77 digs. Hoffman is ranked second with 54 blocks and a hitting percentage of .189.

“This season definitely had it’s ups and downs,” Kratchovil said. “But at the end of the day I loved that team so much.I’m going to miss playing with the seniors tremendously.”
