Mock Trial comes to Manhattan High

The Mock Trial is brand new to Manhattan High School this year and isn’t heard of by many. In simple terms, it’s a trial simulation in which typically two schools act as different parties with two attorneys to each side. A judge comes to make a decree exclusively, as there is no jury present.

Members on each party prior to the trial memorize a “book” giving a role to every member. For example, if a member on MHS was a witness, they would have to memorize the witness’s background story and their answers to questions.

President of MHS’s new organization is junior Sufian Khmous. He enters MHS in tournaments that will most likely take place at the Riley County Courthouse.

“I’m going to sign us up for Mock Trial tournaments next semester because we don’t know a lot right now,” Khmous said. “It’s multiple trials, you do the same case, but it’s like debate you have three or four total throughout the year, And then finals.”

Over the summer, Khmous learned Mock Trial through many qualified programs which got him interested and sparked the idea to bring this group to MHS.
