Boys Track earns 3rd at State, consistent season overall

Boys Track earns 3rd at State, consistent season overall

From starting off the season with two team first places to setting new records and ending up third in State, the MHS boys track team had an overall very consistent successful season.

“I felt really confident, I felt like Coach Rob [Robison] really trained us well, and really prepared us in the mindset and everything,” junior Zach O’Haver said. “One of the main things he stressed was don’t focus too much on the first meet, it’s more about getting into shape and just getting into the habit of things.”

The team had a great start and maintained high overall placings throughout the season, with a fifth place finish at Riley County and a fourth place overall at Olathe. At the home meet the boys team took home a first place overall finish and a second place at the Seaman Relays meet. After placing second at Salina the team went on to be both League and Regional champs, with 17 athletes headed to the State competition.

At the State meet the team saw many outstanding performances. Senior Tanner Dowling-Burnett won the 400 meter dash; he also placed second in the 200 meter dash. The 4×100 ran by junior Charles Morgan and seniors Ethan Samenus, Dante Walters and Dowling-Burnett placed first and broke the school record. Juniors Aaron Newcomer and Vincent Malone placed third and fifth in the high jump respectively. Senior Collins Elumogo placed second in triple jump and Sam Molt placed third in javelin for a total of 51.5 points and third place.
