Scholars Bowl Begins

The Scholars Bowl team has been practicing their skills and knowledge to prepare for a new season to follow last year’s dominating Regional competitions, showcasing their expertise in various subjects.

Sophomore Mason Gish said the practices have focused on practice rounds, getting members ready for the format they will use in competitions starting with their season opener at Washburn Rural.

“We have questions about math, science, English, social studies, fine arts and current events,” Gish said.

Being competitive in Scholars Bowl takes a combination of knowledge and teamwork to be the first to answer their round of questions ahead of the competition.

“Most competitions are like a round robin and whoever wins has the most wins, wins the entire thing,” Gish said. “A few competitions have pools and the top two in each pool go on to the tournament part of the competition.”

Although Gish said some of the competition can be tough, Scholars Bowl is something he has wanted to do since he was younger.

“I had a cousin who told me about it and I thought it sounded fun,” he said.
