The Manhattan High forensics team wrapped up their regular season at Blue Valley on April 19, taking first overall as a team.
The Blue Valley High tournament is one of the biggest tournaments MHS attends, bringing their best roster to compete. This forensics team competed at this tournament to get a taste of the competition they will see at State next week. The team had seven top three placers along with 14 total placers at the tournament.
Informative Speaking the team placed four including seniors Willow Graves and Ava Bunnell taking first and fourth, junior Wyatt Adams placed second and sophomore Savannah Harvey took sixth.
“I think that having a lot of blind confidence is sometimes really good,” Adams said. “It’s not good when you have too much, but like, to an extent, you have to trust yourself, maybe not too much sometimes, but there’s an amount of self trust that you have to have.”
In Domestic Extemporaneous Speaking, Harvey took fourth.
Manhattan placed two students in International Extemporaneous Speaking, which included Adams and junior Cameron Williams.
In Impromptu Speaking the team placed juniors Emron Streetman, who took first, and Zoey Broda, who took sixth.
Graves and sophomore Hannah Zambrano took second and fifth in Humorous Interpretation.
In Program of Oral Presentation juniors Lake Rodriguez and Raychel Deines took fourth and fifth.
Finishing out the tournament junior Ayla Price took third in Original Oration
The team will finish out the season at State this weekend May 3.
“Blue Valley was definitely the tournament that kind of gives a feel for what States gonna look like. I think seeing as we did win sweeps, that shows that Manhattan has a lot of potential,” Williams said. “I think we’re going to do really well. I think we can definitely get top three schools.”
