Fashion Trends through the years

Taylor Bullock, Staff Writer

Fashion is forever evolving everywhere in the world. Every day that we wake up there is a new trend being advertised. These trends can be small, or big enough to shape the decades to follow. Let’s reflect on some from the past.

Fanny Packs: The small pouch with the buckle around the waist was all the rage in the ‘90s. Like all good things, it died out. You may still see a few people wearing them here and there, trying to bring them back. But, like the word fetch, it’s just not going to happen.

Doc Martens: These boots came out in the ‘60s and made their peak of popularity in the ‘80s. With so many ways of making Docs fit with any outfit, they became a trend that can stay.

Chokers: Need anyone say more? Chokers are definitely making a comeback. With cloth chokers, lace chokers, pearl chokers and the many other fabric-of-your-choice chokers, people just can’t quite let this one go. People have to give credit where it’s due. The 2010s are just picking up where the ‘90s left off.

Crop Tops: Are you even certain this trend died? The only thing that’s changed is it’s less appropriate to see a man in one. Johnny Depp was the exception.

Neon…well, EVERYTHING: Colorful T-shirts, shoes, leggings were all around. It was a go-big-or-go-home neon out all the time. With as many neon out themed events Manhattan high has, neon will lose no value no time soon.

Ray-Bans: What’s better than some shades that come with the bonus of cool points? These shades were another throwback trend that had it’s peak in the ‘80s. With icons like Tom Cruise, Madonna and Debbie Harry wearing them, how could you not want a pair for yourselves?

Mini-Backpacks: It’s a backpack but uh….miniature? It goes to show that trends can be made from anything. Being the size of an average purse, it’s most popular for carrying your belongings, but in much better style.
Knee Socks: Knee socks are clearly loved, even the Arctic Monkeys made a song about them. Paired with the perfect plaid mini-skirt, and you get that classic “Clueless” feel. Who doesn’t still want to be Cher and Dionne? All you need to complete the look is a piece of arm candy like Josh.
