The girls swim team went up against Junction City and Lawrence Free State for a triangle meet on Wednesday. With a time of 1:48.53 the 200 yard freestyle relay team of Lauren Cassou, Holly Randall, Kelly Wichmann, and Blaise Hayden, place first while also qualifying for state by seven seconds. The medley of Grace Walker, Lauren Casper, Emma McCarthy and Jennifer Nelson finished sixth for the 200 yard relay.

“We swam against Free State both of our meets so far and that’s tough cause they won state last year,” Casper said. “We’re doing a lot more race pace pace stuff during practice to try and improve our times a little more.”

Casper also finished sixth in the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 1:20.75 and fourth in the 50 yard freestyle with a time of 29.33. Hayden put out a time of 2:11.04 in the 200 yard freestyle while also placing fourth in the 500 yard freestyle with a time of 5:42.45 which qualified her for state.

As well as Hayden, Randall placed fifth with a time of 5:58.36 in the 500 freestyle, also taking first in the 50 yard free with the time of 26.85. Cassou, Walker and Anna Poggi-Corradini each took part in the 100-yard freestyle with times of 59.59,1:08.85 and 1:11.16 while placing second, fifth and ninth.

“We didn’t have a lot of strong swimmers last year but this year we have the Marlins,” Casper said. She believes they have a good chance of winning league and will be able to score some points at state as well.

The girls have a few upcoming meets located in Salina on Thursday April 6th and Olathe on Friday April 7th.
