Many fall enthusiasts are excited about one thing in particular. The Pumpkin Spice Latte, commonly known as PSL, that has sold over 200 million cups since 2003 when it was first introduced into our fall routine by Starbucks. Starbucks isn’t the only popular coffee shop that sells anything pumpkin spice related. McDonald’s is just one of the many top competitors for the PSL. Tim Hortons, Dunkin Doughnuts, Einstein Bros, Caribou Coffee and also Peet’s Coffee and Tea all sell some version of PSL, or a food related to pumpkin.

If you’re looking for an early cup, then you’ll have to drive down to Wichita. The local release date of the favourite drink of fall hasn’t been said yet, but they’re usually up for grabs around Labor Day, so keep a sharp eye out so you don’t miss when you can get a cup of your own.

Many people just aren’t into the whole idea of PLS, and the fact that it has a Twitter account.

“I’m not the hugest fan of pumpkin, so I don’t think I’d like a pumpkin spice latte,” sophomore Maggie Fontanini said. “If people like pumpkin spice then it could be a craze. I’ve never had one, but when I go to Starbucks, which is rarely, I don’t think ‘let me get a pumpkin spice latte,’. I’d like to try one though.”

PSL isn’t the only thing that’s pumpkin flavored or that looks like a pumpkin. All over the world, there are pumpkin flavored pies, doughnuts, and there are even coffee creamers that are flavored. Of course there are actual pumpkins that kids love carving faces into for Halloween. People also enjoy pumpkin covered socks, hats, the craze for something pumpkin has gotten to where if you want something that’s pumpkin flavored, or has a pumpkin on it, you can find it anywhere.

A quick search on YouTube shows that there are even songs in the spirit of the pumpkin flavored beverage. They’re mostly parodies, and the rest are nursey rhymes for kids about pumpkins. There are a few playlists on Spotify; just type in “pumpkin spice” and you’ll also find great music about PSL, or something pertaining to it.

“I love coffee, and my favourite time of year is when the PSL comes out. I love pumpkin pies, bread, anything that has to do with pumpkin, I’m all for it,” sophomore Jesse Theadean said.
