As the weather starts to warm up, so does the girls swim and dive team. Many look forward to this season with high hopes and big goals.

The season starts off at Emporia on March 13 and the team has been practicing five days a week at the Kansas State Natatorium.

“We always wanna win league,”Head Coach Alex Brown on his goals for the upcoming season. “The goal is always to win the league meet at the end of the year and to have everybody improve. We work hard in practice every day and keep dropping time and have the best swim at the end of the year.”

Practice does make perfect and the team needs certain skills in order to reach those goals.

“I’d say work ethic and making sure that we’re not skipping practice and putting in good effort everyday are really the only skills you need. It’s also important to listen to what the coaches say,” Brown said.

At the beginning of the season, newcomers are joining the team and everyone is just starting to build a bond with one another.

“I am most looking forward to getting to know all the girls on the swim team, “ junior Lauren Cassou of the J.V. swim team said. “In order for us to have the best season possible we all have to bring our best attitudes. We have to support and encourage one another and bond as a team.”

For seniors, this will be their last year apart of MHS Swimming, and they have improved from their previous experiences on the team.

“I think I’ve already improved a lot from last year in just the two weeks that we’ve had practice,” senior Lexi Benimon said. “My goals are to improve more at meets and finish all the sets at practice. Work ethic and endurance to get through practice every day and having all the support from your team is most important.”
