Several girls involved in the business pathways at Manhattan High School attended Kansas State University’s Women in Business conference on Nov. 7. This conference consisted of breakout sessions, keynote speakers and a campus tour.

The day began with a brunch and a presentation by keynote speaker Natacha Buchanan, the chief diversity officer for ConocoPhillips. Following the keynote presentation attendees had the choice of attending a variety of breakout sessions. One of these sessions was a presentation by KSU First Lady Sally Linton.

“[Linton] talked about how to say no to things,” senior Audrey Cook said, “and putting yourself first.”

Another session helped the students learn about incorporating areas of interest into your job and at a workplace. During the lunch break attendees were able to hear from another keynote speaker, Danielle Calhoun, the diversity and equity leader for Weber Shandwick. In her presentation she talked about the environment that women in business face.

Lastly the attendees were able to take a campus tour that included the business building.

“I really liked going to Sally Linton’s session because she is a life coach,” Cook said. “So different people get to talk about things going on in their lives, and it made me realize that like everybody’s going through the same thing, so we work together.”
