French Club celebrates National French Week

A seemingly normal classroom transformed into a French kitchen Wednesday when French Club filled the air with French music, laughter and the sweet smell of cooking crepes as they celebrated National French Week.

“This is kind of our first French Club meeting to try to get club together and establish some meeting grounds for future events,” treasurer Bridgett Sutton said. “We were trying to bring the culture into today’s event and we thought this would be a fun idea to get everyone together.”

Though the main purpose was to get members involved, the party also served as the first event without former president Israel Wheatley.

“Since Israel left,” vice president Isis Thornton-Saunders said, “[president] Ashley [Stuckwich]’s had to take over his position and I’ve moved up to the vice president … it’s good for us because we know that we can do this [without Wheatley].”

With a larger than expected turnout and everyone snacking on crepes, the event concluded with success.

“It’s stellar,” new member Hannah Phillips said. “They all just have this love for French culture and they’re all just happy people and they’re enjoying food together and it’s just really nice.”
