‘Hell Week’ produces satisfying results

The week before the musical, also referred to as “Hell Week,” is where all show’s tech crews are most busy with different tasks to complete.

“I think mostly is called ‘Hell Week’ because we’re here constantly and doing a lot of things, getting everything together in a short amount of time,” junior Emily Peterman said.

When people come to a musical, most of them are happy and surprised with the different kinds of costumes, lighting and stagecraft that there is shown on the stage. They notice and appreciate the different styles of costumes and colors. They also expect to hear and see the actors and to be able to understand what the show is about to be able to enjoy it.

“We don’t want people to spend money to come watch the show, and then be disappointed of it,” sophomore Kayla Semmel said. “We want them to get their mind blown by the show.”

But what some people don’t know is the hard work that techies do to have a satisfying outcome.

There are different kinds of tech crews who work really hard with different kinds of tasks to make the show look good. Some of the different crews are stagecraft, props, lighting, sound, costumes, and hair and makeup.

“I think tech work is really important because if we don’t do our job the show wouldn’t go right,” sophomore Trenton Lopez said. “I feel like tech people are the storytellers, making sure the audience sees the story.”

Actors also put the same time and effort as techies. They have been rehearsing really hard to get a great performance.

“The actor’s job is just as important as the tech crew’s job, they are both equally important,” Peterman said. “They both put a lot of time and effort invested in the show.”

This week gives students a little bit of more pressure knowing that the premiere dates are soon to come but they have fun and try to do their best work.

“It is when everything starts coming together,” freshman Meredith Stone said. “I feel like is really important to show people that even though the drama department is not well funded, we can create something great with a low budget.”

“Hell Week” is a very important week, not only because the show gets to be prepared in its perfection but because most of students get together and learn how to work on teams.

“I think is going to go really well,” Peterman said. “We’re putting so much hard work and is going to pay off.”
