Bowling ends season at regionals

On Friday, the bowling team competed in the 6A Regionals at Westridge Lanes in Topeka and the results turned out not to be as satisfying as they wanted them to be. The boys placed fifth with a season high score of 2481. To continue on to state they would have had to place third, but they fell short by 60 pins.

“Regionals was the best team score we ever produced this season,” senior Frank Felber said.

But for every negative downfall there is always a positive uprise. Getting a score of 726, junior Dustin Wichman ended up winning regionals overall and will continue individually on to State in Wichita this Thursday.

“I’m very excited,” Wichman said. “I’m really not nervous, just because it’s the same format that we’ve bowled at every other tournament and I’ve been at the house before, I know the shot, and it’s just getting up and doing what we’ve been practicing all year.”

Felber is sad to finish off his bowling career at Manhattan High but is looking forwards to his bowling career in the future.

“It’s like the closing of a chapter. I’ve been doing bowling for the school for about three years now, and I’m so used to it, but now I need to be ready to move on to whatever comes next,” Felber said, “I’m going to try to be on an intramural team next year at K-State.”

The girls bowling team placed seventh with a score of 2093 at Regionals, 332 pins behind first. Senior Andrea Miller was the top bowler from Manhattan with a score of 538, but unfortunately did not place individually to go state.

Coach Robert Regan doesn’t give up on the teams through thick and thin, and there might have been some down points in the season for the players and the coaches, but they still gained hope and pushed to win at every game.

“I can’t say enough about these kids,” Regan said. “We had a very young team this year that tried hard every day to become better.”
