Spring Break safety tips

Third quarter is coming to a close and it is now time for spring break. Some of us will be leaving the town, the state, or the country and some of us will be staying here. Regardless of where you go, you still need to stay safe. Here’s a list of ways to stay safe under multiple circumstances.

  • Take turns while driving, especially if you’re going long distances. Driving can be very monotonous, and it’s better to rotate so you can stay rested than risk falling asleep behind the wheel.
  • Take a map. We get it, it’s old school and our phones have navigation, but what will you do when your phone dies and you’re stranded without a charger?
  • Be careful when hailing taxis. It’s recommended to call ahead and ask what the typical price is. Not all taxis have a meter, especially those in foreign countries.
  • When at the airport, don’t take a ride from a stranger. Sex trafficking is a real and serious threat. Don’t get caught up in that.
  • Keep track of your backpack or purse if you are carrying one.
  • Try to travel in groups.
  • When leaving the country, know the local equivalent for 911.
  • If you are going to a country that allows people under 21 years of age to drink alcohol, be safe. Figure out your limit and stick to it. Getting your stomach pumped for alcohol poisoning will most likely put a damper on your spring break.
