After the Manhattan girls soccer team successfully achieved its first win of the season on their home pitch, it looked to get in form and prepared for their upcoming matchup that would have it return on the road, this time against Trinity Academy. The Lady Indians finally took control of their season last Tuesday when they won in their home opener against Topeka West achieving its first clean sheet of the season in a game where the score showed Manhattan’s dominance throughout the game.

The Indians won 7-0 with goals from various players.

“It was a good confidence boost,” junior defender Molly Smith said. “I don’t think we played the best we could play but we played good enough to beat them.”

After its win, Manhattan traveled for its road match in which they fell to Trinity Academy by a score of 3-0.

“It was a tough team but I thought we played well,” junior midfielder Gabriella Radina said.

Up next for the Lady Indians is Lawrence Free State High, a team known to be stronger than the Topeka West side they defeated at Bishop Stadium.

“At home you have all of your fans here and you don’t have to travel so you don’t have that extra stress. It’s also really nice to see all your friends in the stands knowing they’re cheering for you. It really makes you play a little bit harder,” Radina said.

After a 2-1 start to the season in which they started with two road games, the Lady Indians play four out of its five next matches in its home stadium and in front of their home crowd

“We don’t know much about [Lawrence Free State] so we’re just going to come out play our hardest and win,” Smith said.

The Lady Indians will finish off its weekend facing Washburn Rural this Thursday at Bishop.
