Bangtan Boys’ impress once again

For those who don’t know, Bulletproof Boy Scouts, more commonly known as Bangtan Boys or BTS, is a seven-member Korean pop group formed under the label Big Hit Entertainment. Debuting in 2013 with members Jin, Suga, J-Hope, Rap Monster, Jimin, V and Jungkook, BTS quickly gained enough popularity to rival their YG Entertainment predecessors, Bigbang . Bangtan Boys’ success around the world not only earned them a spot in Forbes magazine as the “Most Retweeted Artist on Twitter in March 2016,” but they also were the only pop group from Korea to hold the number one spot on Billboard World Albums Chart for multiple weeks. Twitter even made them as the site’s first K-pop emojis. So, it’s needless to say that fans from all over the world were excited when BTS’ new album dropped over the weekend.

After teasing fans with short films over V, a live broadcasting app not to be confused with their sub-vocalist V, and with mysterious additions to music videos for over a year, Korean pop group Bangtan Boys has finally released their second Korean album. “WINGS” continues to show audiences how the band is growing up both musically and in life.

Released at midnight on Monday in Korea, “WINGS” quickly separated itself from BTS’ previous album, “Youth.” Turning away from the group’s typical R&B styled songs, “WINGS” brings a softer tone to the boys’ music. The album’s featured songs, ‘Blood Sweat & Tears,’ as well many solo songs by the members, give audiences a more mature look into music with a soft rock vibe. Now, that is not to say that their R&B influence has disappeared. ‘21st Century Girls’ still brings the popping music fans have come to expect when listening to BTS.

One of the more interesting parts of WINGS were the solo tracks which were teased through ‘WINGS Short Films’ over the V app. Showcasing each member’s strong ability to bring emotions to audiences through their voice alone, each song adds to the mystery of the meaning to all of their albums. Full-length audio of each solo track was released within the album, but to truly capture their feeling, one should watch the short films on Youtube.

Continuing with their tradition of tackling social issues through music, each solo and their respective short film talks about issues that society tends to forget. The big meanings within the solo songs are suicide, parental abuse, addiction, depression, denial, accepting one’s actions and finding the path to adulthood. BTS attack each message beautifully with no words wasted.

BTS has once again shown audiences that they dare to do what no other K-pop group has done, bring up social issues through music. They continue to impress by always releasing something new and always evolving. According to Inquisitor, BTS already sold half a million copies of ‘WINGS’ as a pre-order. With so many dedicated fans, who knows how this Comeback Stage will play for them and what they will come up with next?
