Whole Foods made a deal with Amazon that could potentially change the food industry.

This is a game changer in the stocks and the food industry.

Although Whole Foods isn’t in Manhattan, it still means a lot in the U.S. economy and could mean that Whole Foods could be brought to Manhattan or could be delivered to your house. The company Amazon bought Whole Foods for approximately $13.7 billion. In early December Amazon rolled out the idea that they could fly drones to your house to deliver your items or whatever you ordered called “Amazon Prime Air.” Now that Whole Foods is owned by Amazon, maybe in the future we could see Whole Foods sending goods and pre-made meals to your house.

“I could see Whole Foods being the top company for food in a couple of years,” Antonio Gruenbacher, sophomore, said.

Everyday Amazon’s stock either goes down or up in stock, but eventually finds a way how to raise the stock. This deal made the Whole Foods’ stock go up significantly too. Amazon recently put nearly 2,000 products from Whole Foods’ 365 brand that sells affordable groceries like pet supplies, food and body care products available online.

People all over the U.S. were surprised on how much Whole Foods dropped some of their prices. An example of Whole Foods dropping their prices, like selling kale for $1 on National Vegetarian Day. By making their brand more affordable and accessible by also selling it at their stores and on Amazon and the company put a 1.2 percent price cut on most of their store-available items.

“I wish Manhattan had a Whole Foods because their prices are getting cheaper,” Mitchell Titus, sophomore, said.

After the news of Amazon and Whole Foods making the deal and reducing their products’ prices, Whole Foods dominated the grocery store industry. Walmart lost 2.03 percent of their shares and Kroger lost 8.01 percent. People expressed that Amazon and Whole Foods could definitely be going in the direction of shipping food.
